Nationally renowned journalists, scientists, policymakers and scholars will gather at the University of Colorado at Boulder March 11 for a public discussion about how the media cover science. "Science & the Media: A Round-Table Discussion" will be held in the Old Main Chapel from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The panel will address coverage of critical issues like global warming, as well as the scope of scientific coverage in mass media. The event is free and open to the public, who will have the opportunity to participate in discussions.

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will hear arguments at the University of Colorado at Boulder School of Law on March 19 in the Lindsley Memorial Courtroom from 9 a.m. to noon. Â鶹ÒùÔº will get a chance to hear oral arguments in five cases. After the arguments have been heard, students will be given the opportunity to ask the presiding judges questions.

The Colorado Court of Appeals will hear arguments in the Lindsley Memorial Courtroom at the University of Colorado at Boulder School of Law March 12 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Â鶹ÒùÔº will get a chance to hear oral arguments, ask the presiding judges questions and attend a reception afterward in the Moorhead-Rutledge Lounge. A civil and a criminal case will be heard. In the criminal case, Claire Christine Walsh is appealing her conviction for first degree murder.

Chip Stephens' exceptional talent at the piano has taken him around the world several times, and his experience is now benefiting students and audiences in the Colorado jazz community. The Grammy and Emmy Award-winning pianist in the CU-Boulder College of Music, where he is an assistant professor, has released two acclaimed compact discs. He's played in the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Maynard Ferguson and Woody Herman big bands, and spent two years recording and globetrotting with Cuban jazz trumpet legend Arturo Sandoval.

Sculptor Saint Clair Cemin will give a lecture Tuesday, March 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Colorado at Boulder in Sibell Wolle Fine Arts Building room N141. Cemin creates art pieces that question our traditional concept of place, language and object identity using a variety of media including marble, bronze, wood, copper and porcelain. In his sculpturing Cemin addresses unusual formal, visual and verbal relationships through three-dimensional works.

Robyn Ochs, writer, speaker, activist and workshop leader, will present "Bisexuality, Feminism, Men and Me" at the University of Colorado at Boulder on March 13 at 7 p.m. in Cristol Chemistry Building room 142. Ochs is a co-founder of the Boston Bisexual Women's Network and the East Coast Bisexual Network. She has taught courses on bisexual identity at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Tufts University.

The composer for the hit CBS television series "Survivor" will talk about creating music for television March 14 at a free public lecture hosted by the University of Colorado at Boulder Entrepreneurship Center for Music. Russ Landau, whose music has accompanied films and television programs for more than a decade, will take part in an informal discussion titled "Composing for Television" at noon in University Memorial Center room 215.

Nobel Laureates Carl Wieman and Eric Cornell will appear before both houses of the Colorado Legislature and meet with Gov. Bill Owens on Wednesday, March 6. Wieman and Cornell will be honored by a joint resolution in the Colorado House and Senate and Gov. Owens will proclaim March 6 as "Carl Wieman and Eric Cornell Day" in the state of Colorado.

Longmont's first Hispanic city councilman, the late Benjamin "Benny" Rodriguez, will be honored in a unique altar created with the help of a University of Colorado at Boulder fine arts professor. The altar was designed by Associate Professor George Rivera and the Rodriguez family. Rodriguez, a Longmont native and local business owner, died Jan. 22 at the age of 75.
