The Natural Resources Law Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder School of Law will host a four-day conference devoted to examining issues related to water management programs across the globe, with an eye toward applications in the American West.

Allison H. Eid, associate professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder School of Law, will be able to serve her students next semester while also serving her country. Eid was appointed last month by President Bush to the Permanent Committee for the Oliver Wendell Holmes Devise. Established by Congress in 1955 to administer the funds given to the government by the late Justice Holmes, the Permanent Committee prepares the history of the U.S. Supreme Court and sponsors the annual Oliver Wendell Holmes Lecture.

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) selected the University of Colorado at Boulder's "International Prospective Student Web Site" for a gold medal in the CASE Circle of Excellence Awards. The site beat out both the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Georgia Institute of Technology sites. One hundred ninety entries were judged, from which four gold medals, seven silver medals and three bronze medals were awarded. Other winners of the gold medal included Cornell University, Lewis and Clark College and the University at Buffalo.

A University of Colorado at Boulder researcher has been awarded a prestigious Damon Runyon postdoctoral fellowship by the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation in New York. Morgan Tucker, a postdoctoral fellow in the molecular, cellular and developmental biology department, was one of only 20 researchers nationwide to be awarded a Damon Runyon postdoctoral fellowship in 2002. He will receive $128,500 over the three-year fellowship. Tucker received his doctorate from the University of Arizona.

The last time the flag flew on Old Main was in 1973. A new flag was raised in a ceremony at Old Main at 1 p.m. today. We apologize for any inconvenience. The University of Colorado at Boulder will hold a public meeting on the Williams Village student housing expansion project on May 30 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the University Memorial Center, room 235. According to Derrick Watson, project manager, the purpose of the meeting is to provide information on construction logistics and timetables.

Reporters planning to cover the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus Wednesday, May 22, through Saturday, May 25, should pick up press badges from the pressroom in the Coors Events/Conference Center, room 2. The pressroom will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will provide reporters with competition information and badges allowing reporters in closed events, including the Opening Ceremonies. The public is invited to see the competition among 700 student teams from around the world during the annual Odyssey of the Mind World Finals, Wednesday through Saturday at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The Odyssey of the Mind is an international program that challenges students to come up with the most creative, original and imaginative ways to solve a selection of problems. The program's mission is to develop creative-thinking skills in students from kindergarten through college.

For the first time since the University of Colorado at Boulder's Old Main was restored in the 1980s, the United States flag once again will fly from the north tower, thanks to several individuals and campus committees that donated time and money to erect a new aluminum flag pole. Tomorrow (May 22) at 1 p.m., an ROTC color guard will raise the all-weather flag. Work crews secured the pole on top of old Main last weekend. Lights also were installed at the base of the pole to illuminate the flag around the clock.

Ancient, buried footpaths visible using satellite instruments but invisible on the ground to the human eye will be studied in Costa Rica this summer after a 20-year hiatus by University of Colorado at Boulder and NASA archaeologists.
