Teens To Debate War, Feminism At CU-Boulder Philosophy Camp

Giving up a week of summer vacation to debate classic conundrums of philosophy isn't on a typical high school student's radar, but the participants of this year's Summer Philosophy Institute of Colorado at the University of Colorado at Boulder are tackling philosophical issues through July 19th. The Institute - now in its ninth year - is an outreach program of the CU-Boulder philosophy department and is sponsored by a grant from the CU Outreach Council and the Office of Community Affairs.

CU-Boulder And Dillard University Jointly Awarded $350,000 Grant

NEW ORLEANS -- The Carnegie Corporation of New York has awarded another major grant -- $350,000 -- to fund the second year of a unique partnership between Dillard University and the University of Colorado at Boulder that merges the institutions' respective strengths in the humanities, mathematics, literature and information technology.

New CU-Boulder Report Urges Westerners To Become Energy Experts

Placing a chunk of coal by every bedside reading light would enhance every Westerner's status as an energy expert, according to a new report from the Center of the American West at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The suggestion is one of dozens contained in the 42-page report released today titled "What Every Westerner Should Know About Energy." The report, principally authored by acclaimed history and environmental studies Professor Patricia Nelson Limerick, draws on a two-day discussion of energy issues with 22 experts from industry, academia and government.

Astronomy's Biggest Mysteries Discussed At Fiske Planetarium Show

Birth Of Stars And Planets Is Topic Of Fiske Planetarium Show

The formation and growth of planets and stars will be explored at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Fiske Planetarium on Friday, July 11, at 8 p.m. John Bally, a professor in the astrophysical and planetary sciences department, will present a live show on "The Birth of Stars and Planets." During the presentation Bally will highlight recent observations of star and planet formation and show how scientists using giant ground-based telescopes, space-based instruments such as the Hubble Space Telescope and computer modeling have made some incredible discoveries.

Two CU-Boulder Professors Win Fulbright Awards

When it comes to investing money in the stock market, investors should create a balanced portfolio and then actively rebalance their portfolio as the market goes up and down, according to Professor Michael Stutzer of the CU-Boulder Leeds School of Business. It sounds simple enough, Stutzer said, but many investors don't do it. Instead they jump in and out of the market or just let their money ride, and when the market goes down many are left behind the curve holding too many stocks or not enough bonds.

9-11 World Trade Center Evacuation, Homeland Security To Be Addressed At CU-Boulder Hazards Workshop

The Sept. 11 evacuation of the World Trade Center will be addressed by USA Today reporter Martha Moore at the University of Colorado Natural Hazards Center's 28th annual workshop to be held in Boulder July 13-16. The event will bring together about 350 researchers and front-line managers who deal with the impacts of terrorist attacks and extreme natural events such as earthquakes and hurricanes. The workshop, which is not open to the public, will be at the Millennium Harvest House at 1345 28th St. in Boulder.

CU's Wardenburg Health Center Receives Accreditation From College Of American Pathologists

The University of Colorado at Boulder's Wardenburg Health Center has been awarded laboratory accreditation by the College of American Pathologists, based on the results of a recent on-site inspection. The center's laboratory director, Dr. Thomas Kunstman, was congratulated by the medical society's Commission on Laboratory Accreditation for the "excellence of the services being provided."
