Two students at the University of Colorado at Boulder are being summarily suspended today following a party in the University Hill area of Boulder hosted by CU students last night that Boulder police broke up at about 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 8. According to Andrea Goldbum, director of Judicial Affairs at CU-Boulder, "Two students have been identified for summary suspension" for their roles in the early Friday morning disturbance. A third student may also be suspended pending further review.

A public schoolteacherÂ’s workload just may have gotten easier, thanks to a new Web site that has been launched by the University of Colorado at Boulder. CU4K12 at www.colorado.edu/cu4k12 is a comprehensive outreach and in-service program guide for Colorado elementary, middle and high school teachers and students. It provides access to 174 CU-Boulder outreach programs, campus resources, professional development services and Internet resources for research.

A lecture on "Black Pioneers in the Rocky Mountain Region" will be presented by Paul Stewart, founder of the Black American West Museum of Denver on Tuesday, Sept. 12. The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in the Boulder Public Library Auditorium.

Hideo Sasaki a long-time friend and consultant to the University of Colorado died last week from cancer at the age of 80. Sasaki, a resident of Lafayette, Calif., was a member of CUÂ’s four-member design review board for 33 years. His affiliation with the university began in July of 1960 when his firm, Sasaki Associates Inc., was retained as landscape architecture consultants.

The car show will feature all types of street and race cars -- exotic and classic, foreign and domestic. Awards will be given at the end of the show. The event also will include a silent auction, food and T-shirt sales. Proceeds will benefit the project race car of the CU chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers, which will be on display at the show. The event is co-sponsored by the CU department of mechanical engineering and Checker Auto Parts.

An historical survey of rivers and lakes in the Northern Hemisphere during the past 150 years shows they have been thawing earlier and freezing later each year, an indication the temperate regions of the world have been warming.

Shapins Associates of Boulder was selected by the University of Colorado Board of Regents today to begin work on a conceptual land-use assessment for the CU-Boulder South Campus. The assessment will address environmental, floodplain, transportation, utility and other infrastructure issues and will include conditions and mitigation processes that will define appropriate land uses for the property. CU-Boulder's 308-acre South Campus, located west of U.S. 36 and south of Table Mesa Drive, was purchased by the university in 1996 to meet future campus needs.

ColoradoÂ’s most comprehensive conference on the stateÂ’s tourism industry will reveal results of a new study on mountain tourism, the latest trends in the family vacation market and how well the state tourism advertising agency did in its 2000 summer campaign. The 2000 Colorado Tourism Conference, titled "Colorado Tourism in the New Millennium," will meet Oct. 18-20 at the Doubletree Hotel, 3203 Quebec St., in Denver. Paul Horn, senior vice president and director of research for IBM Corp., will present the CU-Boulder College of Engineering and Applied ScienceÂ’s second annual Mervyn Young Memorial Lecture at Macky Auditorium, Sept. 14. The 90-minute lecture titled "The Future of Technology" is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The event is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Office of Community Relations at the University of Colorado at Boulder is asking Boulder area residents to submit lecture topic ideas to help develop future installments of the ChancellorÂ’s Community Lecture Series, aimed at bringing faculty expertise to general public audiences. Because of the diversity of the campusÂ’s academic programs, topics can range anywhere from aerospace engineering to Shakespeare. Popular lecture topics in past years have included smart growth, life in the Caucasus Mountains and the people of ancient Nubia.
