Wobbekind, director of the Business Research Division at the College of Business and Administration at the University of Colorado at Boulder, is the recipient of the 1997 BankOne Colorado Corporation Faculty Community Service Award.

CU-Boulder Conference To Focus On Western Dams, Water Issues

A conference titled Dams: Water and Power in the New West is set for June 2 through June 4 at the Natural Resources Law Center of the University of Colorado School of Law in Boulder. The keynote address by Charles F. Wilkinson, “Coming to Grips with Growth in the West: Traditional Communities, Free Rivers and the New Megalopoli,” will be Monday, June 2, at 12:30 p.m. in the Lindsley Memorial Courtroom of the law school. Wilkinson is a noted law professor, writer and authority on Western issues.

CU-Boulder To Host Big 12 Student Affairs Workshop

The University of Colorado at Boulder will host the annual Big 12 Senior Student Affairs Officers Workshop June 2 through June 4. The workshop for senior student affairs officers from the Big 12 conference gives school representatives an opportunity to get acquainted, exchange ideas and explore topics of mutual interest.

Byyny Recommends Tharp As Athletic Director

Richard A. Tharp, interim athletic director at the University of Colorado at Boulder since August 1996, will be recommended to the CU Board of Regents as the campusÂ’ permanent director of intercollegiate athletics, according to Chancellor Richard L. Byyny. Following an internal search, Tharp was a finalist for the job along with Theophilus D. Gregory, director of athletics at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

CU-Boulder Professor Jane Bock To Receive 1997 Hazel Barnes Prize

Jane H. Bock, a biology faculty member since 1968, has won the University of Colorado at BoulderÂ’s highest recognition for teaching and research, the Hazel Barnes Prize. Chancellor Richard L. Byyny announced that Bock, a world-class scientist who successfully blends research and teaching of undergraduate and graduate students, will receive the Hazel Barnes Prize and a cash award of $20,000.

Local students were among about 3,800 receiving degrees May 16 in outdoor ceremonies at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The ChancellorÂ’s Recognition Award for students receiving all AÂ’s in their college careers was given to Shawn Timothy Stone of Monument, who received a bachelor of science in electrical and computer engineering. Stone, a graduate of Rampart High School in Colorado Springs, also was named Outstanding Graduate of the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Continuing Education Offers Summer Credit Courses

Mary Fran Myers Receives National Flood-Plain Award

Mary Fran Myers, co-director of the Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has received the highest national award given by the Association of State Floodplain Managers. In receiving the 1997 Goddard-White Award, Myers was cited for two decades of leadership in flood-plain management in government and academia. She is credited with encouraging a multidisciplinary approach among flood-plain managers and for linking hazards management and sustainability.
