CU-Boulder Committee On Women Cites Need For Campus Action Plan In Report Presentation Oct. 31

The Chancellor's Committee on Women at the University of Colorado at Boulder will present its annual Status of Women Report on Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. in Old Main Chapel. Chancellor Richard L. Byyny will address some of the key issues contained in the report. He and committee members will take questions, comments and suggestions from the audience afterward. The public is invited to attend the address and the reception in the Heritage Center in Old Main immediately following.

Internationally Prominent Artist, Robert Irwin, Speaks At CU-Boulder, Tuesday Oct. 15

One of the most prominent and influential artists of the 20th century will give a free public presentation Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the University of Colorado at Boulder. CU-Boulder's Department of Fine Arts Visiting Artist Program will bring Robert Irwin to campus for a 7 p.m. talk in the Sibell-Wolle Fine Arts Building, room N141.

CU-Boulder Parents Association Hosts Fall Parents Weekend Oct. 25-26

Parents and families of CU-Boulder students have a variety of activities to choose from during Parents Weekend Oct. 25-26. The event draws about 4,000 parents and family members from around the United States and from several foreign countries. In order to help them get around town, the City of Boulder is providing free passes for the Hop, a high-frequency bus that services the core area of the city.

CU-Boulder Natural Resources Law Center Celebrates 20 Years

The Natural Resources Law Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a gala fund-raising dinner Oct. 26 at the Oxford Hotel in Denver. "For two decades, NRLC has engaged in research aimed at influencing the public debate and policymaking concerning natural resources," said Natural Resources Law Center Director Jim Martin. "We are proud of our legacy and look forward to continuing this vital work."

Physics Department To Rededicate Duane Physics Building Oct. 18

The physics department at the University of Colorado at Boulder will rededicate the Duane Physics building on Friday, Oct. 18, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in a public ceremony to be held in room G1B20. The rededication is in recognition of the building's 30th anniversary and is part of a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first graduate degree conferred in physics, which was awarded to Charles Lory.

Galileo Mission To Jupiter Topic Of Fiske Planetarium Show

The many discoveries of the Galileo spacecraft in its journey through space and around Jupiter will be explored at CU-Boulder's Fiske Planetarium on Friday, Oct. 18, and Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. University of Colorado at Boulder Professor Fran Bagenal will present her live show "Galileo: Mission to Jupiter," as part of the planetarium's monthly astronomy talks. The live talks are given by CU-Boulder professors and guest lecturers.

'Chemistry Of Cooking' To Be Explored During CU Wizards Show Oct. 19

Screaming water, rising cakes and cooking without heat are some of the topics to be explored during the CU Wizards show "Chemistry of Cooking" on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 9:30 a.m. in Cristol Chemistry room 140. University of Colorado at Boulder chemistry and biochemistry Professor David Nesbitt will present the free hour-long show that will explore the science lurking in the refrigerator and on the kitchen stove.

CU-Boulder Journalism School Discontinues Graduate Program In Integrated Marketing Communication

Based on the recommendation of a faculty committee, the University of Colorado at Boulder has decided to discontinue a 10-year-old Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) graduate track in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. CU-Boulder Provost Phil DiStefano said the decision was difficult, given the accomplishments of many of the program's graduates and faculty. However, DiStefano said, a number of staffing issues and lack of cross-discipline collaboration contributed to the decision to discontinue the track.

Life And Work Of Vine Deloria Jr. To Be Celebrated Oct. 23 By CU's Center Of The American West

The life and work of Vine Deloria Jr., author of "Custer Died for Your Sins" and one of the leading figures of the American West, will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Oct. 23 by the University of Colorado at Boulder's Center of the American West. The center will present Deloria with its highest honor, the Wallace Stegner Award, during the festive event in the University Memorial Center's Glenn Miller Ballroom. The UMC is located at Broadway and Euclid Avenue on the CU-Boulder campus.
