United States officials today announced the release of an Arctic Meteorological and Climate Atlas, which contains some previously restricted U.S. and Russian data, at a meeting of the Arctic Council in Barrow, Alaska.

Gary Jacobs, executive vice president and founding investor in Broomfield-based Corporate Express Inc., today was awarded the 2000 Dean's Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence by CU-Boulder's College of Engineering and Applied Science. In making the award, Dean Ross B. Corotis said Jacobs' "exceptional leadership and innovations epitomize the goals of the comprehensive, technologically based education found in our countryÂ’s leading engineering colleges."

The Center of the American West at the University of Colorado at Boulder will host a mock divorce trial between the rural and urban West on Saturday, Oct. 21, in Fort Collins. The program will be held from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Stuart St., and is sponsored by Common Ground - The Urban/Rural Connection, an organization that promotes sustainable communities. The event is free and open to the public.

The CU Board of Regents announced today that Woody and Leslie Eaton have donated $5 million toward the support of CU-BoulderÂ’s new Humanities Building at the College of Arts and Sciences. "This is a tremendous commitment in support of CU-Boulder and the College of Arts and Sciences," said Chancellor Richard Byyny. "WeÂ’re very appreciative of this gift and what it means for the new Humanities Building, as well as for the college. The EatonÂ’s loyalty and generosity to CU-Boulder is a great example to us all."

CU-Boulder Chancellor Richard Byyny and Tuskegee University President Benjamin Payton will sign an agreement on Monday, Oct. 16, that will join the two campuses in an exchange of students, faculty, curriculum and technology. The agreement will be signed at the Kellogg Conference Center on the campus of Tuskegee University.

Spanish- and Laotian-speaking staff members at the University of Colorado at Boulder are taking English as a Second Language classes at work this fall through an Employee Development program designed to improve communication in the workplace and enhance recruitment and retention.

A unique seminar on environmental issues involving prominent Jewish thinkers, environmental activists, businesspeople, academics and local politicians will be hosted by the University of Colorado at BoulderÂ’s Environmental Studies Program Oct. 17. The seminar is the first event of a new project the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership, or CLAL, has begun to bring together people with diverse perspectives on environmental issues for study and dialogue, said Rabbi Robert Rabinowitz, a senior fellow at the center. CLAL is based in New York City.

Fiske Planetarium at the University of Colorado at Boulder will explore the dynamics of the solar system and the way it was shaped by millions of collisions in "Cosmic Collisions and Our Solar System," Friday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the planetarium. The pre-recorded show travels back in time to the beginning of the solar system when the devastating impact of asteroids, comets and millions of chunks of floating debris reworked the surfaces of the planets.
