Stan Lewis, a University of Colorado at Boulder alumnus and successful Front Range homebuilder and land developer, has endowed a faculty position in the Construction Engineering and Management Program through a gift to CU-BoulderÂ’s College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Fraternity and staff members from the University of Colorado at Boulder will distribute about 500 balloons to senior centers in Boulder on Friday, Sept. 29, following a day-long campus career fair at the Coors/Events Conference Center. Several volunteers from the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and the CU-Boulder Office of Community Relations will deliver the black, gold and white balloons from the fair to senior centers and residence homes in Boulder. The balloons will be delivered Friday from about 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Jack Stack, a nationally known speaker and entrepreneur, will discuss management issues at the CU-Boulder College of Business on Sept. 28. As the president and CEO of SRC Holdings Corp., Stack spearheaded the turnaround of Springfield Remanufacturing Corp. in the 1980s.

An internationally known group of speakers will gather at the University of Colorado at Boulder Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. in the Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building, room 140, to debate the possibility of intelligent life beyond Earth. Panelists at the free public symposium, "Is There Intelligent Life Elsewhere?" will talk about the ongoing search for life away from Earth and will dissect some of the major questions surrounding the idea, before opening the floor for debate.

Planetary Scientist Steven Lee will continue the Fall ChancellorÂ’s Community Lecture series with his presentation of "New Views of Mars: The History and Future of Mars Exploration" at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11, at The Academy. The program is free and open to the public and attendees will be able to use 3-D glasses during LeeÂ’s visual presentation. The program will show how telescopic and spacecraft observations have been used to explore the planet Mars.

Enrollment at the University of Colorado at Boulder has hit another all-time high for degree-seeking students this fall with a total enrollment of 26,035, according to Barbara Schneider, executive director of enrollment management. The freshman class is 12 percent higher than in 1999 but the rate of growth in overall enrollment this year is smaller than in previous years. Decreases in graduate student and transfer student enrollment have offset gains in undergraduate enrollment.

Several University of Colorado at Boulder professors and science educators will speak to teachers on topics ranging from "Smart Goo" to "The Physics of Basketball" at the Colorado Science Convention on Sept. 29. About 1,000 science teachers from throughout the state are expected to attend the daylong event at the Denver Merchandize Mart, 451 E. 58th Ave.

The Center of the American West at the University of Colorado at Boulder will present a panel discussion titled "At a Loss for Words: The Endangerment of Native American Languages," Tuesday, Oct. 3rd, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Forum Room at the University Memorial Center. The panel will discuss concerns linguists have with the loss of language diversity and the implications it will have for individual cultures and all of humanity. Native American languages, which are among the most endangered in the world, will be the main focus of the panel.

CU Latino Advocacy and the United Mexican American Â鶹ÒùÔº (UMAS) at the University of Colorado at Boulder are sponsoring "Reliving El Corrido," with singer and Mexican American musicologist Dr. Jesus "Chuy" Negrete on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 6 p.m. in room 150 of the Humanities Building on campus.
