University of California, Berkeley anthropologist Margaret Conkey, one of the world's leading authorities on Stone Age art and artifacts from ice age Europe, will give a lecture at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Saturday, Feb. 3.

Nine University of Colorado at Boulder doctoral programs have been ranked high in a faculty productivity index featured in the Jan. 12 issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education, including the geography department, which ranked second in the nation. Other CU-Boulder programs ranked in the top 10 included physical oceanography (4), communication (6), cognitive science (7), atmospheric sciences (8), chemical engineering (8), biomedical engineering (9), civil and environmental engineering (9) and aeronautical and aerospace engineering (10).

Companies announcing the purchase of advertising slots during the Super Bowl broadcast may get a slight boost in their stock prices, according to researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Leeds School of Business. Margaret C. Campbell, associate professor of marketing, and Eric Hughson, associate professor of finance, say the announcement of Super Bowl advertising can help the stock prices of companies that have not recently advertised during the game.

The scheduled March 17 launch of Steve Swanson from Cape Kennedy, Fla., to the International Space Station on NASA's space shuttle Atlantis will bring the total number of University of Colorado at Boulder alumni who have flown in space to 17.

Nearly 40 years after his death, Martin Luther King Jr.'s message of national unity and peace are more relevant than ever, say coordinators of an upcoming University of Colorado at Boulder symposium that will focus on the slain civil rights leader's legacy. "Right now, with so much going on in the world and on campus, it's important for us to remember Dr. King's message," said Debra Frazier, a counselor and coordinator at the CU-Boulder Office of African American Student Services, part of the campus' Center for Multicultural Affairs.

The University of Colorado at Boulder's Norlin Library will host a photography exhibit on the Sudan crisis by documentary photographer Ryan Spencer Reed from Jan. 22 through Jan. 28. "Hands of a Displaced Sudan: The Cost of Silence" is free and open to the public during normal library hours and will be exhibited in the Norlin Library HotSpot located in the southwest area of the first floor.

An online meal planner and grocery store geared toward campers and a travel company focused on the world's frontier destinations are among the finalists in a University of Colorado at Boulder student business plan competition. The finals of the Graduate Business Plan Competition, hosted by the Robert H. and Beverly A.
