Plans for updating and improving dining options are in the works at the University of Colorado at Boulder, host of the National Association of College and University Food Services Regional Conference March 21-24 at the University Memorial Center. "Escape to Planet Boulder: Experience the Difference" is the theme of the conference. Representatives from more than 20 universities are expected to attend. Areas represented include Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho and Alberta and Saskatchewan in Canada.

Professor Lord Colin Renfrew of Cambridge University, considered by many experts to be the premier archaeologist in the world, will give a lecture at the University of Colorado at Boulder on March 20. Renfrew will present the 1999 Distinguished Archaeology lecture titled "The Origins of Linguistic Diversity -- Towards a World View." Sponsored by the CU-Boulder anthropology department and funded by a department alumnus, the free public talk will be held at 7:30 p.m. in room 270 of the Hale Science Building.

University of Colorado at Boulder students will have the opportunity to learn important spring break safety tips during the "Safer Spring Break Campaign" on March 15-16. Campaign events will be held at the University Memorial Center Dalton Trumbo Fountain Court and the CU-Boulder Recreation Center. Wardenburg Health Center is sponsoring the campaign to educate students about issues such as dating safety, travel safety, alcohol poisoning, injury prevention, skin cancer prevention and healthy sexuality.

Ten experts will participate in a virtual open forum discussion on the effects of technology in the new millennium —pro and con— on Thursday, March 18, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the CU Art Galleries, Sibell Wolle Fine Arts Building.

The Student Diversity Forum at the University of Colorado at Boulder will host the Sixth Annual Undergraduate Student Diversity Conference on March 9-10 titled "The Evolution of Revolution: Does Society Really Change?" All events will be held in the University Memorial Center and are free and open to the public. The diversity conference is one of the only academic conferences in the country that is entirely student organized.

The Sixth Annual Colorado Women of Color in Higher Education Conference will be held at the University of Colorado at Boulder March 11-12 at the University Memorial Center. This is the first time that the conference, titled "Coming Together in Struggle and Celebration," has been hosted by CU-Boulder. It is open to men and women. More than 400 students, staff, faculty and community members from around the state are expected to attend.

Researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder have licensed a new computer modeling tool that is being used coast-to-coast and abroad to help balance the competing objectives of flood control, water supply, environmental regulations, navigation, power generation and recreational uses on the nation's rivers, lakes and reservoirs.

The University of Colorado at Boulder has been selected to host a new student leadership development program sponsored by the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute. The principle objective of the six-week course called, "Collegiate Leadership Development Program: Building the Next Generation of Latino Leaders," is to cultivate upcoming Latino leaders through greater activism on campus and in their communities.

The Chancellor's Community Lecture Series will host a talk by Richard Devin, producing artistic director of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, titled "The Place of the Artist in U.S. Society" on Wednesday, March 10 at the Boulder Public Library. The lecture will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the library's main auditorium and is free and open to the public. The event is co-sponsored by CU-Boulder Chancellor Richard L. Byyny and the Boulder Public Library.

The University of Colorado's Center for Humanities and the Arts will host its annual Colloquium March 4-5 on the subject of "Beauty and its Discontents." All events are free and open to the public.
