University of Colorado at Boulder students will have the opportunity to learn important spring break safety tips during the "Safer Spring Break Campaign" on March 15-16.
Campaign events will be held at the University Memorial Center Dalton Trumbo Fountain Court and the CU-Boulder Recreation Center.
Wardenburg Health Center is sponsoring the campaign to educate students about issues such as dating safety, travel safety, alcohol poisoning, injury prevention, skin cancer prevention and healthy sexuality.
"Spring break is a great time for students to visit new places and have fun. It can also be a time when students' health and well being is at risk," said Rebecca Carlson, manager of the Community Health Education Department at Wardenburg Health Center. "To have a safer spring break, we encourage students to have as much information as possible prior to going into new situations."
Free items such as sunscreen, lip balm, whistles, bike maps and brochures will be available at the booths in the UMC and Recreation Center. Information about road trips, what to take for a safer spring break, dating safety, the drugs GHB and Rohypnol, alcohol, first aid, road safety, exercises for skiing and snowboarding and other information will be available.
Student peer educators and professional staff members will be available during the events to answer questions and provide additional information.
Information about the CU-Boulder Office of Victim Assistance will also be on hand in the event that students need its services following spring break.
Wardenburg also offers a Travel Clinic where clients can receive a computerized travel handout for the country they plan to visit. A full range of medical services also is available for students needing health care and treatment.
