The Oct. 30 music recital at The Academy has been cancelled. University of Colorado at Boulder music students will continue to present free recitals every Monday evening from Nov. 6 through Dec. 4 at The Academy, 970 Aurora Ave. in Boulder. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel and are free and open to the public. The recital series is sponsored by the CU-Boulder Office of Community Affairs and the College of Music.

The 10th Annual Umoja Gospel Extravaganza will be held Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Various choirs throughout the Boulder and Denver metro area are scheduled to participate. It is free and open to the public. The event is organized by students in CU-Boulder's Umoja Voices Gospel Choir, with the assistance of DeLaris Carpenter of CU's Cultural Unity Center.

CORRECTION Time Change for National Academy of Sciences Symposium at CU-Boulder Oct. 31 In an Oct. 25 CU-Boulder news release on the National Academy of Sciences Symposium to be held in Old Main Chapel on Tuesday, Oct. 31, the time listed for the event was incorrect. Two open forums on the University of Colorado at Boulder's newest referendum, the honor code, will be presented Nov. 7 and Nov. 13 by the students who are proposing it. The forums will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Recreation Center conference rooms 1-2, and on Monday, Nov. 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Recreation Center conference rooms 3-4.

A search committee has been named to seek a replacement for Ross B. Corotis, dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Corotis resigned effective at the end of the current academic year, July 31, 2001. He will continue his teaching, research and scholarly work as the engineering college's Denver Business Challenge Professor beginning next academic year.

The Colorado Crew rowing team comprised of students from the University of Colorado at Boulder will hold a "rowathon" on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the Pearl Street Mall as part of CU ParentÂ’s Weekend.

Professor James Whiteside of the University of Colorado at Denver will give a lecture on "Sports, Culture, and Politics in Colorado" Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. on the Front Range Community College campus in Longmont. Whiteside is the author of "Colorado: A Sports History." A slide show will be presented as part of the program and a reception will follow. The event is free and open to the public.

A symposium sponsored by the National Academy of Sciences to be held on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus Oct. 31 will feature talks by three of BoulderÂ’s top researchers, all members of the prestigious national academy.

One of the most violent phenomena in astronomy – supernovae – will be the topic of a live astronomy show at CU-Boulder's Fiske Planetarium on Friday, Nov. 3, and Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. University of Colorado at Boulder astronomy Professor Richard McCray will delve into the subject of supernovae, looking at everything from ancient Chinese inscriptions to current observations of these rare stars and how new observations are used to measure the expansion of the universe.

The University of Colorado at Boulder has added 10 new programs to the choices undergraduate students have to study around the globe, including Cuba, Jordan and the Dominican Republic. The new additions will start in spring semester 2001. CU-Boulder students can now choose from more than 140 Study Abroad programs in 70 countries. Programs are available in a variety of lengths, including by semester, academic year or summer. Not all choices are available for all programs. The deadline to apply for fall 2001 programs is March l.
