A free forum on cancer awareness will be held at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Monday, April 16, in Benson Earth Sciences room 150 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jigme Stormcrow, a breast cancer survivor, and David Raben of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center will headline a panel of cancer survivors and support personnel from CU-Boulder's Wardenburg Wellness Center. The event is aimed at raising consciousness of cancer issues within the community and is open to the public.

Â鶹ÒùÔº in the College of Engineering and Applied Science will apply their design skills and engineering know-how for the sheer fun of it April 16-20 as they compete in the annual Egg Drop and Model Rocket Competition, two of the highlights of Engineering Days 2001 at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Engineering Days, or "E-Days," is a weeklong, tongue-in-cheek celebration of the engineering profession organized by students each spring. Â鶹ÒùÔº throughout the Boulder campus are invited to participate.

John Maclean, author of "Fire on the Mountain," will give a talk on "Storm King: The Fire and Its Legacy" on Tuesday, April 24, at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Maclean, a veteran journalist for the Chicago Tribune, will speak at 7 p.m. in room G1B20 of the Duane Physics Building in an event co-sponsored by the CU-Boulder Center of the American West and the Boulder County Wildland Fire Cooperators.

The 125th anniversary of the state's oldest public institution of higher education will be celebrated April 20 with an equal number of cakes including one in the shape of Old Main, the first University of Colorado building, which was completed in April 1876. The celebration will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on CU-Boulder's historic Norlin Quadrangle, bordered by eight of the university's oldest buildings. An estimated 4,000 guests are expected to attend the 125th anniversary celebration. The public is invited to attend.

Historic Norlin Quadrangle at the University of Colorado at Boulder will be a sea of cakes the afternoon of April 20th as thousands of guests gather to celebrate the university's 125th anniversary. Traditions Catering of Boulder has been ordering supplies, including 125 heavy-duty cake boxes, for the past two months in preparation for the celebration. Baking begins this weekend on the centerpiece cake -- a replica of Old Main in chocolate filled with raspberries and whipped cream.

Two undergraduates from the University of Colorado at Boulder have been named 2001 Truman Scholars from a field of 592 candidates nominated by colleges and universities throughout the nation. CU junior Jack "Doug" Wilson, an English and philosophy double major from Colorado Springs, and Jessica Sucherman, a junior and a double major in English and anthropology from Mancos, Colo., each will receive $3,000 scholarships for their senior years at CU-Boulder and $27,000 each to be used for graduate school.

The University of Colorado at Boulder-based BioServe Space Technologies Center is sending an intriguing biomedical experiment to the International Space Station April 19 to test the effects of long-term weightlessness on antibiotic production.

The myths, astronomical phenomena and constellations of the sky in the Southern Hemisphere will be explored in a live astronomy show at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Fiske Planetarium on Friday, April 20, and Tuesday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. Deidre Brucker, a CU-Boulder senior majoring in computer science, and Sanlyn Buxner, a recent CU graduate who now works at Fiske Planetarium, will present "Southern Skies."

NASA astronaut Bonnie J. Dunbar will visit CU-Boulder on Friday, April 13, to present the K.D. Wood Colloquium in the department of aerospace engineering sciences. Her presentation, titled "From Apollo Into the New Millennium: Human Space Flight Exploration," will begin at 3 p.m. in room ECCR 245 of the Engineering Center. The presentation is free and open to the public.

The University of Colorado Graduate School of Business Association is hosting the 9th annual CU MBA Diversity Benefit and Auction on Thursday, April 19, at 6 p.m. in the Coors Events/Conference Center on Regent Drive at CU-Boulder. The benefit and auction is open to the public. The cost is: $50 for members of the public; $20 in advance for CU faculty, staff, alumni and their guests ($30 at the door); and $10 in advance for CU students ($15 at the door). Larger monetary donations are welcome.
