A spin-off company formed by several University of Colorado faculty to research and treat heart failure has been selected as one of the top 100 companies that will shape the world's future by the Red Herring Magazine.

Ringing bells will greet CU-Boulder students at noon on Thursday, Sept. 5, to mark the anniversary of the University of Colorado's opening day 125 years ago. The carillon bells, located in Macky Auditorium, will ring 44 times in celebration of the first class of students. On Sept. 5, 1877 the doors of Old Main swung open to welcome CU's first class of 44 students and two instructors, including the president of the university.

The University of Colorado at Boulder and the Boulder Fire Department have teamed up to spread the word to incoming students that fire danger is still high throughout Colorado and students can help prevent wildfires from happening.

The soccer fields at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Williams Village housing complex are undergoing a restoration process with a new watering agreement established between the university and the city of Boulder. The project began on Aug. 28 and is expected to last four weeks.

The Department of Housing at the University of Colorado at Boulder will hold its 12th annual Global Jam smorgasbord of culturally diverse foods on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Farrand Field. According to Hall Director Holly Holliday, this year's menu will be prepared by Housing's dining services and will feature African, Spanish and American Indian foods. Some of the foods to be served will include spicy buffalo chili, roasted corn, fideos con gambas, garbonzos con cebolla, gazpacho and various other entrees.

CU-Boulder civil engineering Professor Bernard Amadei recently traveled to Western Africa to introduce an evaporative cooling device in Mali and install a solar-powered water pump in Mauritania.

University of Colorado at Boulder students have a central place to go when they need help with academic and student life as Ralphie's Resource Center enters its second year. The center in Norlin Library exists to help with the administrative aspects of being a student, including using the Personal Look-Up Services or PLUS system, navigating graduation requirement information and making the most of what CU-Boulder has to offer.

University of Colorado at Boulder students and administrators are taking action to prevent the inconsiderate and sometimes violent second-hand effects of friends' or roommates' alcohol abuse. Bob Maust, principal investigator for A Matter of Degree, a grant-supported program to reduce high-risk alcohol use, reports that students are increasingly standing up for themselves when faced with disruptive alcohol situations.

Internet art challenges traditional notions of the artist and artwork: Who is the artist when the medium is dynamic and participatory? What about the integrity of the artwork itself, when the audience can customize the artist's original conception and recreate it in infinite new configurations?
