Skier Bloom To Lead CU-Boulder Homecoming Parade Oct. 7

CU-Boulder's 2005 Homecoming festivities kick off Friday, Oct.7, with a parade through Boulder's University Hill neighborhood at 5 p.m., followed by a pep rally and a free concert on the Norlin Quad at 6 p.m. Chancellor Phil DiStefano will serve as Grand Marshall and Jeremy Bloom, former Buff football player and World-class freestyle skier, will be the parade's Honorary Marshall. The annual event celebrates a return to campus for CU alumni, most of whom will attend CU's gridiron match-up with the Texas A&M Aggies on Oct. 8. Game time is at 5 p.m.

CU-Boulder Celebrates Topping Out Of Innovative Center For Â鶹ÒùÔº

The topping out ceremony for the innovative $32-million ATLAS Center, which will open for classes to 6,000 students on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus in August 2006, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27. "The building and its programs are unique in their emphasis on uses of technology and digital media by all students, particularly those majoring in the arts, humanities and social sciences," said Bobby Schnabel, vice provost for academic and campus technology and faculty director of ATLAS.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the University of Colorado at Boulder will host a series of events starting with a special informational kickoff rally Sept. 30. The kickoff event, in the British Studies Room of Norlin Library, will run from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. It will feature mammography information presented by Boulder Community Hospital, a health fair and a rally hosted by CU-Boulder Interim Chancellor Phil DiStefano at 4:30 p.m.

CU Professor Joseph Falke Named President Of Biophysical Society

University of Colorado at Boulder Professor Joseph Falke of the chemistry and biochemistry department has been elected president of the Biophysical Society, an international, professional group with more than 7,000 members. Founded in 1956 and based in Rockville, Md., the Biophysical Society is made up primarily of research scientists who use physics and chemistry to study molecular problems in biology and medicine. Its members around the world teach and conduct research at universities, laboratories, government agencies and industry.

CU-Boulder Engineering Professor Named One Of Top 35 Young Innovators

Melissa Mahoney, assistant professor of chemical and biological engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has been named one of the top 35 young innovators in technology, business and the arts in the October issue of Technology Review. The group of innovators, all of whom are under the age of 35, is described by the magazine as "having the potential to profoundly impact the world." The magazine is published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
