Award-Winning Investigative Journalist James Steele To Speak At CU-Boulder Oct. 25

Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and Time Inc. editor-at-large James Steele will present "Disturbing the Peace: Investigative Reporting in America" on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Steele will deliver the second annual John E. Holden Journalism Lecture at 5:30 p.m. in Hale Science Building room 270, with a reception to follow. The event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Public Symposium On Hurricane Katrina Offered By CU-Boulder Experts Oct. 21

An interdisciplinary panel of experts at the University of Colorado at Boulder will discuss issues and research projects related to Hurricane Katrina on Friday, Oct. 21. Several of the speakers will discuss initial findings from "Quick Response" studies carried out immediately after the hurricane. The discussion will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the CIRES auditorium on the CU-Boulder campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Civic Engagement Expert To Address Importance Of Democracy Education In Oct. 27 CU-Boulder Talk

CU-Boulder Researcher Identifies Tracks Of Swimming Dinosaur In Wyoming

The tracks of a previously unknown, two-legged swimming dinosaur have been identified along the shoreline of an ancient inland sea that covered Wyoming 165 million years ago, according to a University of Colorado at Boulder graduate student.

Cassini Mission To Be Explored At Fiske Planetarium Oct. 27-28

The newest discoveries and pictures from the Cassini spacecraft exploring Saturn will be presented at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Fiske Planetarium on Oct. 27-28. Josh Colwell, a co-investigator on Cassini's ultraviolet camera and a research associate at CU-Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics, will present "Cassini Update" at 7:30 p.m. on both days.

Science Adviser To Lyndon Johnson To Speak At CU-Boulder Oct. 24

Donald Hornig, White House science adviser to former President Lyndon Johnson from 1964 to 1969, will speak at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Monday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Old Main Chapel. The free, public event is part of a year-long lecture series titled "Policy, Politics and Science in the White House: Conversations with Presidential Science Advisers," sponsored by CU-Boulder's Center for Science and Technology Policy Research.

CU Wins International Solar Home Competition In Washington, D.C.

The University of Colorado has again won the first-place trophy in the international Solar Decathlon competition in Washington, D.C., it was announced today. CU was one of 18 universities competing in the Department of Energy-sponsored event, which began Oct. 7 and continues through Sunday on the National Mall, the pedestrian way connecting the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol. Cornell University placed second and California Polytechnic State University finished third.

Buffalo Bill Cody's Legacy Is Topic Of Historian's Talk At CU-Boulder Oct. 25

The life of William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, who was among the most famous Americans in the world in the late 19th century, is the topic of a free public talk Oct. 25 at the University of Colorado at Boulder by guest historian Louis Warren. Warren will discuss his book, "Buffalo Bill's America" at 7 p.m. in the Old Main Chapel on the CU-Boulder campus. Warren is a professor of history at the University of California, Davis.

"The Magic Of Chemistry" On Display At CU Wizards Oct. 22 Show

Audience members at the Oct. 22 "Light, EnergyÂ… Reaction!" CU Wizards show at the University of Colorado at Boulder will be invited to predict the outcome of a variety of chemical experiments. Professor Veronica Bierbaum, a chemistry and biochemistry professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will present the show at 9:30 a.m. in the Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building, room 140. The show, aimed at students in grades five through nine, is free and open to the public.

CU-Boulder Pakistani Student Sponsors Earthquake Relief Drive

University of Colorado at Boulder graduate student Saqib bin Sohail, of Pakistan, is coordinating a drive to collect winter clothing, blankets and tents for victims of the Oct. 8, 7.6-magnitude earthquake, which has left thousands of Pakistanis homeless and without basic necessities.
