5 ways to show your Buff Pride

鶹Ժ walking on campus

With views of the Flatirons, sunny days and plenty of things to do, Boulder is a great place to be when you’re a college student. Whether you’re beginning your first year or final year at CU Boulder, take time to show your Buff pride and get involved in your community.

1. Check things off your Buff bucket list

There are certain activities and experiences that are exclusive to the CU Boulder campus. Here are some items to check off your bucket list this year:

  • Get ready to cheer on the CU Buffs at the Student Gameday Huddle tailgates before every home football game. Enjoy free food, giveaways and a chance to be named the Student Fan of the Game!
  • Try  at The Connection.
  • Swim in the Buff Pool, test your skills on the outdoor fitness court or take a fitness class at the Rec Center
  • Take a selfie in front of the Flatirons at Farrand Field.
  • Study in the UMC fifth floor lounge and terrace.
  • Catch a show at Fiske Planetarium

2. Support local businesses

Boulder is known for a lot of things, and great food is near the top of the list. As a “foodie” town, Boulder has some of the best restaurants, cafes and coffee shops in the area. Take time to explore and check out local favorites on The Hill, Pearl Street and beyond. Many restaurants offer discounts and specials for college students, so make sure to bring your Buff OneCard with you.

The  is also a great way to support local food and businesses. Held on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on 13th Street between Arapahoe Ave and Canyon Boulevard, the farmers market allows you to enjoy delicious food and shop from local vendors.

3. Enjoy the great outdoors

Between hiking, biking, camping and climbing, many people enjoy Boulder for its outdoor recreational activities. Take time while you’re here to explore open spaces, trails and parks in the Boulder area. Review these essential tips for hiking, and check out Outdoor Pursuits to rent equipment for camping, backpacking, climbing or other activities.

As you explore, be mindful of your surroundings and stay on designated trails. Be sure to follow all rules and regulations, which are critical in protecting visitors, wildlife and our beautiful parks and trails. Pick up all trash and dog waste, and be considerate and respectful to others who are also enjoying time in nature.

4. Live the Colorado Creed

Started by students, the Colorado Creed is a social responsibility code for all of the CU and Boulder community. It is a way of life and a reminder to act with honor, integrity and respect.

Remember that you’re a Buff wherever you are. Whether you’re on or off campus, try to be mindful of your actions and consider how others may be affected.

5. Volunteer

A great way to get more involved in your local community is to volunteer. There are many benefits to volunteering, in addition to giving back to your community. Volunteering allows you to:

  • Meet new people
  • Support a cause you care about
  • Develop professional skills
  • Gain experience you can include on your resume
