The night sky and constellations above Boulder, along with the history of the constellations and the zodiac, will be explored during the second in a series of live astronomy shows at the Fiske Planetarium this winter and spring. Katy Garmany, a University of Colorado at Boulder astronomy professor and director of Fiske Planetarium and Sommers-Bausch Observatory, will present "Ancestral Skies" at Fiske Planetarium on Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m.

Editors: State Rep. Ron Tupa (Dist. 14) will receive the first CU license plates to be issued under the new program on Monday, Jan. 24, at 8 a.m. at the Boulder County Courthouse. Colorado residents can now purchase new University of Colorado custom license plates through their county clerkÂ’s office. The state legislature approved the specialty plates in spring 1998 and they are becoming available in January.

A commissioner of the FCC, the Assistant U.S. Attorney General, the head of ColoradoÂ’s Public Utilities Commission and local information technology executives will examine telecommunications law at a CU-Boulder School of Law conference Feb. 6-7. Executives of US West, Level (3) and AT&T will join government officials for the conference, which will explore whether the nationÂ’s telecommunications laws are fit for the 21st century and, if not, what needs to be done to meet the challenge.

The postmaster general and chief executive officer of the United States Postal Service, William J. Henderson, will speak to University of Colorado at Boulder students on Jan. 18. Colorado residents age 55 and older are eligible to audit regular daytime classes at the University of Colorado at Boulder for a nominal fee through the Senior Auditors Program. Spring semester registration will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 24, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the Koenig Alumni Center located on the southeast corner of University Avenue and Broadway.

Carl Wieman of the University of Colorado at Boulder and Eric Cornell of the National Institute of Standards and Technology have been awarded the 2000 Benjamin Franklin Medal in Physics from the Franklin Institute. The prestigious award also was presented to Wolfgang Ketterle of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Information streaming back from a new NASA satellite indicates that molecular hydrogen, the primary ingredient for star and planet formation, is found nearly everywhere in the Milky Way Galaxy, according to a University of Colorado at Boulder study.

Navajo star and constellation myths, including the story of the creation of stars, will be explored during the centuryÂ’s first live astronomy show at the Fiske Planetarium on the campus of the University of Colorado at Boulder. John Stocke, a CU-Boulder professor of astrophysical and planetary sciences, will present "Navajo Skies" at Fiske Planetarium on Friday, Jan. 21, at 7:30 p.m. "Navajo Skies" is the first in a series of live astronomy talks at the planetarium this spring.

Is health a right for all or a privilege for some? Campus and metro-area community members are invited to discuss this and other questions in a live, interactive satellite conference on race, class and health Jan. 19 at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The national teleconference, hosted by the Public Broadcasting System, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Coors Events Center rooms 4 and 5. A local panel discussion will follow.
