Three University of Colorado at Boulder faculty members have been elected fellows of the prestigious American Association for the Advancement of Science for 2006.

The University of Colorado at Boulder Police Department is investigating the theft of a computer server from the Engineering Center on the CU-Boulder campus. The theft occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, Nov. 18, said CU Police Lt. John Kish. The server is an Aspen System Dual 2.66 GHz unit and is approximately three years old.

University of Colorado at Boulder Chancellor G.P. "Bud" Peterson today announced the next step in the formulation of a strategic plan that will examine the realities the campus will face in the year 2030.

The University of Colorado at Boulder Leeds School of Business will present its annual Colorado Business Economic Outlook forum on Monday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. at the Denver Marriott City Center. The event at 1701 California St. in Denver is free and open to the public and is sponsored by CU-Boulder's Leeds School of Business and Compass Bank. No reservations are required.

Secular and religious ideologies played a major role in helping the Bush administration explain and sell the war on terror to the American public, according to University of Colorado at Boulder religious studies Professor Ira Chernus in his new book "Monsters to Destroy: The Neoconservative War on Terror and Sin." Chernus argues that the war on terror is based not on a realistic appraisal of the causes of the conflict but on "stories" that policy-makers believe about human nature and a world divided between absolute good and evil.

And even with all of the choices and information available to shoppers today, many will still lose when it comes to getting the best price for their gifts, says University of Colorado at Boulder Leeds School of Business Professor Donald Lichtenstein.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annie Proulx will present the Center of the American West's Distinguished Lecture at 7 p.m. on Nov. 29 in the Glenn Miller Ballroom at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The event is free and open to the public and those interested in attending are encouraged to arrive early as seating is limited. A reception and book signing will follow the lecture.

Historian, writer and social activist Howard Zinn, author of "A People's History of the United States," will speak about illegal immigration and other issues at the University of Colorado at Boulder. CU-Boulder's Cultural Events Board is sponsoring the talk, which will take place at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 in the Glenn Miller Ballroom at the University Memorial Center. The event "Who You Callin' an Alien, Pilgrim?" is free and open to the public.

A free event aimed at giving people the tools they need to detect depression and prevent suicide among youths, elders and others will take place on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus. "The Gatekeeper's Keys: Tools for Depression and Suicide Intervention" is slated to take place 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 29 in room 235 of the University Memorial Center.

A University of Colorado at Boulder committee comprised of faculty, staff and one graduate student will start searching for a new vice chancellor for research and dean of the graduate school. Psychology professor Jerry Rudy will chair the committee, which was expected to begin its work in late October. Philip DiStefano, provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, said the panel expects to have finalists on campus by March or April and will make a decision by May.
