Lisa Marshall, associate director of science storytelling in Strategic Relations and Communications, won a silver Media Relations award from PRSA Colorado in 2021 for her story "New COVID-19 test returns results in 45 minutes, without nasal swab."

Using easily accessible language and storytelling techniques, Marshall shared a key update inthe fight against COVID-19. The piece, published in CU Boulder Today, described the development of a rapid, portable, saliva-based COVID-19 test able to return results in 45 minutes. Marshall based the story on a preprint manuscript, which became a common practice for science writers during the rapidly evolving pandemic as a way to keep communities and scientists informed of real-time scientific developments.
