A panel discussion on "How I Covered the War: Reporters on the Front and Editors Back Home" will be held at the University of Colorado at Boulder Oct. 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Eaton Humanities Building room 150.
The event is free and open to the public. The panel will feature journalists who have covered war and conflict, including one who participated in embedded journalism, a program that allows reporters to travel with soldiers to report on the war.
"These journalists were close to the situation in Iraq, and have been back for awhile," said Dean Paul Voakes of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. "They can now analyze their experiences and share them with us."
The following panelists are scheduled to participate:
* Tad Bartimus is a syndicated columnist who covered the Irish Republican Army in Northern Ireland and guerilla movements in Central and South America. As an Associated Press correspondent, she was one of the first female journalists to cover the Vietnam War. Bartimus has co-authored three books and her essay was featured in "War Torn, Stories of War" written by women who reported on the Vietnam War.
* Charlie Brennan is a reporter for the Rocky Mountain News. He was an embedded journalist with the V Corps of the U.S. Army in Iraq. Brennan has also been a lead reporter on the JonBenet Ramsey murder case and the Kobe Bryant rape case. He has taught media ethics at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
* Gwen Florio is a Rocky Mountain News political reporter. She formerly reported for The Denver Post from Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia and Sudan.
The panel will be moderated by Voakes and is sponsored by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. For more information call (303) 492-0460.
