A U.S. Air Force B-2 bomber will perform a flyover at Folsom Stadium at the University of Colorado at Boulder during the beginning of the Colorado-Missouri game, which kicks off this Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.
The flyover will occur right after the singing of the national anthem, a few minutes before the game at about 12:23 p.m., according to Michael Grant, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs.
The campus has an agreement with the Air Force and Navy allowing flyovers at games and other special events on rare occasions when the military units have training flights in the vicinity of the campus, Grant said. Flyovers also are often a part of the Bolder Boulder ceremonies at Folsom Field and have occurred during May commencement ceremonies.
Following a flyover of the stadium during the May 2002 commencement ceremony, some residents complained about the noise of the B-1 aircraft used during that maneuver. Although the B-2 is a less noisy aircraft and the flyover will be very short, taking only about 15 seconds, Grant said he wanted to alert local residents that it was happening so they would not be surprised by the aircraft's flight.
