Clay Johnson III, deputy director for management in the White House Office of Management and Budget, will give a public talk at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Friday, Oct. 24.

Johnson, who will be on campus as a guest of the World Affairs Athenaeum, will speak at noon in the Old Main Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

The Office of Management and Budget helps the president prepare the federal budget and, among other things, attempts to improve administrative management. As deputy director for management Johnson provides government-wide leadership to executive branch agencies of the federal government to help improve the way federal agencies and programs are managed.

"He will be on campus addressing a number of different issues in alignment with his diverse background of experiences," said Michael Maziar, one of the student fellows responsible for putting on Athenaeum events. "He has expertise in a number of fields, including his background in business endeavors and entrepreneurialism, his political background and his management experience in everything from the art world to government."

The Athenaeum also is sponsoring a student dinner with Johnson on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. The dinner is open only to CU-Boulder students and space is limited, so interested students should contact the Athenaeum fellows to make reservations.

The Athenaeum, a student-run program that brings world-renowned guests to campus to interact with CU-Boulder students in their classes and in public forums, is an offshoot of the Conference on World Affairs. CU-Boulder students Maziar and Lauren Robinson are the Athenaeum fellows for 2003-04 and are responsible for organizing the events.

Past Athenaeum visitors include Tim Long, an executive producer and writer for "The Simpsons," Gary Hart, Margot Adler, Rick Reilly, Dr. Patch Adams and Susan Faludi.
