A ceremony to mark the opening of Bear Creek Apartments at Williams Village, the new student housing complex at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will be held Aug. 15 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Representatives from CU-Boulder, the CU Foundation and American Campus Communities will kick off the event. A special tribute to the Williams family, which donated the land to the university in the early 1960s, also is planned. A ribbon-cutting and tours of the building will follow.
Bear Creek Apartments are designed for upper-division and graduate students and feature a mix of private and shared bedroom accommodations with private and semiprivate bathrooms, academic support services and laundry and recreational facilities.
On-site amenities include a business center on the main floor that allows students to log on to a network for color printer and fax services, card-controlled access to the building, 11 units designed for wheelchair access, bike racks, social lounges and study areas, a 24-hour courtesy patrol and on-site management and maintenance staff.
A second apartment building is under construction and scheduled for occupancy in fall 2004.
American Campus Communities, the nation's leader in privatized student housing, is developing and managing the project. The CU Foundation issued revenue bonds for the construction.
