Contractors building the new addition to the east side of Folsom Field will conduct a test of a new steam line Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The system is being tested to ensure that the steam supply for heating the new addition to the stadium functions properly and to test the safety of the new supply line, according to Steven Hecht, project manager for CU's Department of Facilities Management. The building is scheduled for occupancy Sept. 1.
The procedure is expected to produce a large steam cloud and a significant amount of noise that will be seen and heard in the surrounding community. The steam vapor contains distilled water and poses no threat to the environment or to people in the area.
"The steam line will be opened to full capacity and steam will exit a pipe on the east side of the new addition to Folsom Field," Hecht said. "Every effort will be made to minimize the noise produced by the test."
University police and the city of Boulder fire and police departments have been notified, and efforts are being made to contact all affected parties prior to the test.
