The University and College Ombuds Association has selected a University of Colorado at Boulder staff member as its new president-elect.
Mary Chavez Rudolph, a CU-Boulder associate ombudsperson and former admissions counselor and graduate student adviser, was chosen for the three-year position. The UCOA is an international association of university offices dedicated to resolving student, staff and faculty conflicts.
Chavez Rudolph is a native of Denver and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from CU-Boulder and a master's degree in counseling psychology from CU-Denver. Since 1990, she's held several positions at CU-Boulder in which she has advised students, implemented minority recruitment programs as a member of the CU-Boulder admissions office's Multicultural Access and Community Affairs team, and resolved campus conflicts as a member of the ombuds office.
She currently is completing work on a doctorate in educational leadership and innovation at CU-Denver.
During her UCOA tenure, Chavez Rudolph expects to be very involved in researching a possible merger between the UCOA and The Ombudsman Association, a similar organization that also includes government and corporate ombuds offices. She will co-chair a joint conference next year in Tucson, Ariz., hosted by UCOA and TOA. Networking with other ombuds organizations and Canadian colleagues are included in her responsibilities.
