CU-Boulder student Ryan Van Duzer will travel to the Dominican Republic to spend his spring break living and working in an orphanage. Van Duzer is traveling with 35 people from a group called Orphanage Outreach based in Scottsdale, Ariz., and will spend March 22-29 in Esperanza, Dominican Republic.
Van Duzer, who is making the trip for the second time, said he will spend his time with the children doing arts and crafts, reading, teaching English and math, and doing other recreational activities. The Volunteer Clearing House
The Volunteer Clearing House is a student-run volunteer placement service for CU-Boulder that works as a liaison between the student body and various campus organizations interested in volunteerism. The organization's "Alternative Breaks" program has two trips planned for March 21-29.
Katie Esquivel and Ben Leiker are leading a trip to Ignacio, Colo., to work on community projects with the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. A group of nine CU-Boulder students will spend their spring break working on various projects with local community members and children. The projects are sponsored by the SunUte Community Center. Kate White will lead a group of eight CU-Boulder students on a trip to Sioux Falls, S.D., to work with Habitat for Humanity to help build low-income housing. The group will spend four days working on the project. White can be reached at (303) 492-7632.
