Rick Reilly, the well-known Sports Illustrated writer and author, will give a public talk at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Tuesday, March 11.
Reilly, who will be on campus as a guest of the World Affairs Athenaeum, will speak at 3 p.m. in the University Memorial Center Glenn Miller Ballroom. The event is free and open to the public.
A CU-Boulder alumnus, Reilly has been a writer at Sports Illustrated since 1985. He started his writing career working for the Daily Camera, Denver Post and Los Angeles Times, before moving on to Sports Illustrated.
Reilly also is the author of several comedic novels about sports, many of them with a golf theme. He graduated from CU-Boulder in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in journalism.
The Athenaeum also is sponsoring a student dinner with Reilly on March 11 at 7 p.m. The dinner is open only to CU-Boulder students and space is limited, so interested students should contact the Athenaeum fellows to make reservations.
The Athenaeum, a student-run program that brings world-renowned guests to campus to interact with CU-Boulder students in their classes and in public forums, is an offshoot of the Conference on World Affairs. CU-Boulder students Ryan Van Duzer and Walter Perschbacher are the Athenaeum fellows and are responsible for organizing the events.
Past Athenaeum visitors include Tim Long, an executive producer and writer for "The Simpsons," Gary Hart, Margot Adler, Dr. Patch Adams and Susan Faludi.
