Swinerton Builders, co-developers of a new student housing project at Williams Village by the University of Colorado at Boulder, is launching a program to increase awareness of the company's sexual harassment policies.
According to Derrick Watson, CU-Boulder coordinator for the Williams Village project and assistant to the vice chancellor for administration, the increased visibility of the policy is designed not only to educate workers, but also to assure CU students, staff, faculty and local community members that Swinerton is committed to promoting a civil working environment.
"The management team at Swinerton is taking a proactive stance to discourage any kind of inappropriate behavior by construction workers," Watson said. "We commend their efforts to support CU-Boulder policies for ensuring the well-being of our community members."
The campaign will include signs at the construction site detailing Swinerton's sexual harassment policies, printed in English and Spanish, as well as other educational materials and sessions for employees.
Swinerton managers worked with CU-Boulder's Office of Sexual Harassment Policy and the department of Publications and Creative Services to design the materials.
Swinerton Inc. offers construction services throughout the western United States to a diverse range of business clients. The company is working in association with American Campus Communities to develop the Williams Village project.
The new student housing project is specifically designed for upper-division students and will feature apartment-style housing and academic support facilities and services.
Construction began in June. Swinerton Builders and American Campus Communities plan to make 495 beds available for occupancy in 2003 and 499 in 2004, for a total of 994 beds. Housing for an additional 1,000 students could be available in fall 2008, given favorable market conditions. Financing is provided from revenue bonds issued through the CU Foundation.
