CU-Boulder marketing professor Dipankar Chakravarti has been elected a fellow of the Society for Consumer Psychology, the second for the Leeds School of Business marketing faculty.
"This is a great and well-deserved honor and brings important recognition to the Leeds School of Business and the University of Colorado," said Dean Steven Manaster. "What is particularly noteworthy about Professor Chakravarti is that while this award recognizes his contributions and stature in the field of consumer behavior, he also is a noted expert in marketing strategy and marketing models."
Manaster said what sets Chakravarti apart from other distinguished scholars in the marketing field is "his breadth of expertise."
The Society of Consumer Psychology is a premier organization of consumer marketing academics dedicated to the application of behavioral science to marketing. Membership is comprised of research scholars from colleges and universities.
To be considered for fellow status a candidate must demonstrate a record of outstanding contributions to the field of consumer psychology. Candidates also must show some combination of excellence in knowledge discovery, integration and application. The society has elected fewer than 60 individuals in the past 50 years.
Chakravarti is the Leeds School's Ortloff Professor of Business. He won the Association for Consumer Research award for best paper in the Journal of Consumer Research in 1994. He has been editor of the Journal of Consumer Psychology and is on the editorial review board of the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Research and the Journal of Marketing. He has a bachelor's degree with honors in physics from the University of Calcutta, India, and a doctorate from Carnegie Mellon University.
With Chakravarti's election, the Leeds School marketing faculty has two fellows in the Society for Consumer Psychology. Professor Paul Herr was named a fellow of the Society for Consumer Psychology and the American Psychological Association in 1999.
