Volunteers and donations from the University of Colorado at Boulder campus community are being sought for the 12th annual Make a Difference Day on Oct. 26.
Make a Difference Day is the largest national day of doing good, and is sponsored by USA Weekend magazine and its nearly 600 carrier newspapers in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation.
The Boulder Staff Council's Outreach Committee is partnering with the United Government of Graduate Â鶹ÒùÔº, the University of Colorado Student Union, the Volunteer Clearing House and the Boulder Faculty Assembly to organize projects for staff, students, faculty and friends. The intent is to get the campus community involved in volunteering to help those in need.
Volunteers, donations, materials and supplies are all sought for this year's projects, all of which are in the Boulder area. Projects will include painting at a school, a "knit-a-thon" where participants will knit hats and scarves for the homeless, helping with activities at a senior center, organizing and taking inventory at a shelter and putting a garden to bed for the winter.
Other projects under consideration involve general indoor and outdoor work for seniors.
This is the second year the staff council has organized volunteer opportunities in conjunction with Make a Difference Day. Kwal-Howell Paint, Sutherland's Lumber, Diamond Vogel Painting, McGuckins Hardware, Sherwin Williams and Nations Rental already have pledged funds for this year's effort.
Volunteers and donors can contact Pat Beals Moore by phone at (303) 492-6406 or by sending an e-mail to pat.moore@colorado.edu.
