Kathy Escamilla, associate professor of education, is an expert on bilingual education who has worked with individuals and school districts in Colorado to help them develop English as a Second Language programs. Escamilla believes bilingual education is an important option for local school districts and should remain so.Ìý
"Learning English is absolutely pertinent," she said. "But I also look at non-native language skills as an asset, and I think dual language schools are an important part of the state education system." Colorado is a leader in local choice of schools, she said, and bilingual education should be an option, just like fine arts. Escamilla can be reached at (303) 492-0147.
