The annual party for incoming freshmen at CU-Boulder's University Memorial Center will be held on Friday, Aug. 23, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. following the New Student Convocation at the Norlin Quadrangle.
Welcome Fest, formerly known as the UMC Crawl, returns this year with a new name and a newly renovated facility to provide an evening of entertainment and free prizes.
According to Leasa Weimer, director of student programs for the UMC, Welcome Fest is a great way for new students to meet each other, be entertained and explore the student union facility.
Entertainment begins at 6:45 p.m. in the new atrium with performances by student acappella groups and ballet folklorico. A comedy performance by Impulse Theater follows at 7 p.m. and a presentation by hypnotist Robert Geist will be held in the Glenn Miller Ballroom at 8 p.m.
The UMC Connection, in room 105, will host free pool and bowling until midnight and henna tattooing will be offered in the Dennis Small Cultural Center, room 457. Additional highlights include Bongo the balloon man and free nachos, promotional items and prizes.
Movie mania begins at 10 p.m. on Farrand Field with "Pie A La Mode," a special showing of "American Pie" and "American Pie 2."
