The University of Colorado at Boulder will host a Women and Tobacco Trade-In Event on Monday, May 13, to highlight the special risks that tobacco use poses to females.
Women are asked to trade in their ashtrays, cigarettes or tobacco company promotional items such as key chains, lighters and bottle openers for a free T-shirt listing the "Top Ten Reasons for Women in Colorado to Quit Smoking" plus helpful information on the quitting process.
The daylong event will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the northeast patio of the University Memorial Center on the CU campus and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Boulder's Scott Carpenter Park.
The Women and Tobacco Coalition, with support from the Comprehensive Cancer Prevention and Control Program, is spearheading the project. The mission of the coalition is to raise awareness among all citizens regarding the dangers of tobacco and to provide women and girls with tools and incentives for quitting.
The event is part of a statewide effort to educate the public on the special risks tobacco use poses for females, and to encourage individuals and communities to become more involved in tobacco prevention efforts. Non-smokers are welcome to attend.
The event is co-sponsored by Wardenburg Student Wellness and the Boulder Campus Wellness Program in conjunction with several other CU-Boulder departments. For more information contact Margi Resch at Margi.Resch@Colorado.EDU or (303) 735-3040.
