For the first time in its history, the University of Colorado at Boulder School of Law has cracked The Hispanic Business magazine's top 10 list of the best law schools for Hispanics.Ìý
The survey, published in the March 2002 edition, ranks CU ninth in the nation.
"I was pleased, but not surprised, to learn that the University of Colorado School of Law is rated one of the top 10 best places in the nation for Hispanics to attend law school," said Associate Dean Daniel Vigil. "The world now knows what I have known since I attended law school at CU -- it is truly a great place for Hispanics and all other students to study law."
According to the magazine, the ranking is based on five factors.
* Enrollment: The number of Hispanic students currently enrolled and the percentage of Hispanic students in the overall law school enrollment, which is 9 percent at CU.
* Faculty: The percentage of full-time Hispanic faculty members among total full-time faculty.Ìý
* Student Services: The number of special programs to recruit Hispanic students in each school, the number of mentorship programs available to Hispanic students and the number of Hispanic student support organizations active on campus were evaluated.
* Retention: The number of first-year Hispanic students who returned for their second year divided by the number of first-year Hispanic students, as reported by each institution.Ìý
* Reputation: All graduate programs were assessed on the basis of the U.S. News and World Report ranking of their programs in the Best Graduate Schools, 2002 Edition.
