A panel discussion on the role of women in Afghanistan will be held on Sunday, Dec. 9, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Mathematics Building, room 100, at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
The keynote speaker will be Fruzan Parvanta, a native of Afghanistan. A representative of the CU-Boulder Muslim Â鶹ÒùÔº Association will moderate the panel.
According to Ellen Maslow, coordinator of the event, Parvanta will report on a conference on Afghan women being held in Brussels later this week.
"The political situation in Afghanistan has changed very fast recently," Maslow said. "Afghan women are gathering to decide what the questions and demands are for women in the new government and society. This will be the only opportunity to hear the thoughts and opinions of a range of Afghan women."
Maslow is a member of Rocky Dialogues, a community effort to produce public events on politics, and one of the sponsors of the panel. Other sponsors include the CU-Boulder departments of ethnic studies and women's studies, the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, Free Speech TV and the CU-Boulder Muslim Â鶹ÒùÔº Association.
The Mathematics Building is located near the corner of Folsom Street and Colorado Avenue.
A reception will be held following the program at the Women's Studies Hazel Gates Woodruff Cottage, next to the Economics Building on Broadway and Pleasant streets.
