Joe Rosse, professor of management at CU-Boulder, won a Faculty Partnership Award and a $30,000 research grant from IBM Corporate Research and IBM Printing Systems Division.
The award will provide funding for his research through the Center for the Integrative Study of Work at CU-Boulder, where he is director.
The award, one of 136 granted to researchers in an international competition, commends Rosse for his work in building connections between corporations and the Leeds School of Business. He has helped to develop teams consisting of IBM employees and CU students and faculty researchers to explore areas such as corporate performance measurement, new employee socialization, market research and the use of intellectual capital.
In addition, Rosse has organized class presentations by IBM employees, corporate tours and networking events with the school's administration.
"Building relationships with corporations is important because it exposes students to the business world," Rosse said. "It also demonstrates to the community that the school's research contributes to and supports the work of local companies."
The Center for the Integrative Study of Work is a group of researchers from CU and other research organizations who represent a variety of disciplines. The center, part of the Graduate School at CU-Boulder, brings together the interests and expertise of the researchers to identify topics related to the integrative study of work.
The center hopes to increase understanding of the role of work in living systems, increase understanding of human work and apply this knowledge to current critical problems related to work that affect individuals, organizations and societies.
