Oct. 30 Press Conference, Demonstration of
Advanced Visualization Technology set at CU-Boulder
The BP Center for Visualization at the University of Colorado at Boulder, a new interdisciplinary research center in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, will unveil its state-of-the-art Immersive Visualization Environment (IVE) during a series of grand opening events Oct. 29-30.
The Center was made possible through a $10.6 million gift from BP to the University of Colorado last year. The second day of the grand opening on Oct. 30 features a news conference, tours of the center and demonstrations of advanced visualization technology. The news conference is not open to the public.
News conference speakers will include:
o Elizabeth Hoffman, University of Colorado President
o Tony Meggs, BP Group Vice President
o Marc Holtzman, Colorado Secretary of Technology
o Geoffrey Dorn, Executive Director, BP Center for Visualization
Top executives from the center's other major sponsors - SGI, Landmark Graphics, Lockheed Martin and Paradigm Geophysical - also will participate.
The schedule for the open house/news conference includes:
o 9:30 a.m. News conference
o 10:15 a.m. Hands-on IVE demonstration
o 10:45 a.m. Additional visualization demos
Demonstrations will include visualization technology applications in aerospace engineering, medicine, oil and gas, and facilities design, plus a presentation by SGI Chief Technology Officer Dr. Eng Lim Goh about SGI high-performance computing and visualization technologies at the center.
The BP Center for Visualization is located at 3400 Marine St. in Boulder. Traveling to the center from Denver, take U.S. 36 north to the Foothills Parkway exit. Turn left onto Arapahoe Avenue, then turn left onto Marine Street. The facility is on the left (south) side of the street. Visitor parking will be available. Please use building's west entrance.
