The public is invited to a presentation of the proposed conceptual land use assessment for the 308-acre CU-Boulder South property at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
The open house will be in the Coors Events/Conference Center on the conference level, located on the north side of the center. The public is invited to attend the open house to see and discuss the analysis that led to the development of the land use assessment map. Written comments also will be taken.
Campus planners and consultants retained by the campus will explain the conceptual land use assessment and answer questions. The assessment provides a blueprint for long-term building potential and outdoor uses of the property. It was prepared for the university by the Boulder land use consulting firm Shapins and Associates.
Creation of the land use assessment coincides with the university's goal of relocating 12 tennis courts, scheduled for removal in spring 2002, to make way for a new law school building on the main campus.
The land use assessment enables the university to identify potential locations for the tennis courts and for other athletic and recreational facilities. Those uses are expected to occupy as much as 75 acres. The concept of using CU-Boulder South for athletic and recreational facilities was approved by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education and is outlined in the current Campus Master Plan.
CU-Boulder's Design Review Board also will review the assessment and it is anticipated that the CU Board of Regents will review the land use assessment at the board's Nov. 7 Capital Planning Committee meeting.
