The Housing department at the University of Colorado at Boulder will hold its 11th annual Global Jam smorgasbord of culturally diverse foods on Thursday, Sept. 13, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Farrand Field.
"This special event is an opportunity for the CU community to celebrate other cultures through ethnic entertainment and cuisine," said Steve Weaver, CU-Boulder residence hall director.
"Learning about and finding joy in our differences is a unique opportunity and journey for our community. Our hope is that Global Jam will be a part of this journey."
This year's menu, prepared by Housing's dining services, will feature foods from Spanish, African and American Indian cultures. Some of the foods to be served will include:
ß Grilled turkey legs, spicy buffalo chili, wild rice pilaf with dried cranberries
ß Roasted corn on the cobb, fry bread and baked squash with wild onions
ß Fideos con Gambas (shrimp pasta with garlic sauce)
ß Doro Wat (chicken with red pepper and tomato stew)
ß Champinones al Ajillo (mushrooms in garlic sauce)
ß Ye Miser Wet (red lentil stew)
ß Spicy Moroccan Couscous
Entertainment will be provided on two stages. The acts on the main stage will include flamenco dancers, an Afro-Celtic rock band and a Brazilian carnival group. A smaller stage will feature the groups African Kusogea Nobi, Gamelon Tunas Meeka and Southern Plains Indians. Strolling artists also will entertain those attending the Global Jam.
Cost for the dinner is $7 for adults and children over age 13 and $3 for children ages six to 12. Children under six and students who have a residence hall meal plan with a valid ID can eat for free.
In case of bad weather, Global Jam will be held inside the Coors Events Conference Center.
