Three finalists for the position of director of the Wardenburg Health Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder are scheduled for campus interviews, according to Gary Chadwick, chair of the search committee.
The finalists are Robert Cranny, Wardenburg's interim director, Dennis Garcia, associate director of Health and Wellness Services at Washington State University and Tom Jacobsen, interim and associate director of student health at Arizona State University.
Cranny is the first finalist scheduled to be interviewed May 1-2, followed by Garcia, May 3-4 and Jacobsen, May 7-8.
Cranny has been actively involved in health care management for 15 years, including six years at Wardenburg. He also is president of Arvada-Wheat Ridge Physical Therapy in Wheat Ridge, Colo.
Cranny formerly worked as director of Long Beach Sports Medicine in Long Beach, Calif., and as staff physical therapist at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Downey, Calif., and St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet, Ill. He received his bachelor's degree in physical therapy from Marquette University.
Garcia, associate director of Health and Wellness Services at Washington State University, also serves as head team physician for intercollegiate athletics and coordinator of athletic medicine. He has administrative experience at the college health level and community health center level. He obtained his medical degree from the University of New Mexico; his specialty is family practice and sports medicine.
Garcia has served as chairman of the Institutional Review Board for Human Subjects and president of the medical staff at Pullman Memorial Hospital.
Jacobsen earned his master's degree in health service administration at Arizona State University, where he currently serves as interim and associate director of student health. He has experience in managed health care in the private sector as well as in college health. He has held several university-related leadership positions, including president-elect of the Pacific Coast College Health Association.
The candidates will meet with Wardenburg staff, University of Colorado Student Union leaders, the Joint Health Board, the vice chancellor for student affairs and other university administrators. Wardenburg is co-sponsored by the University of Colorado Student Union and the division of Student Affairs. Student government leaders, including the Joint Health Board, oversee the use of student fees used to finance the center and also participate in management decision-making.
