John Wortman, general curator at the Denver Zoo, will visit the CU-Boulder campus to give a talk about gorillas in captivity on Monday, April 16, at 6 p.m. in Eaton Humanities room 150.

The lecture on "Gorillas in Captivity: Conservation in Zoos" will discuss strategies that zoos are using to promote the conservation of gorillas. The lecture is sponsored by the CU-Boulder student group Roots and Shoots, an organization that coordinates projects locally to promote care and concern for the environment, animals and human communities among young people from preschool to the university level.

Established by Jane Goodall, Roots and Shoots began with a small group of students in East Africa and has grown to more than 1,000 registered groups in 50 countries throughout the world.

Admission is $2 for students and $3 for non-students. Anyone purchasing a ticket will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a family four-pack of tickets to the Denver Zoo, Denver Museum of Nature and Science and the Butterfly Pavilion.

Participants must be present to win. All proceeds will benefit the local chapter of Roots and Shoots.
