An entrepreneur whose company specializes in a safe and environmentally friendly supply of renewable hydrogen energy will speak at the University of Colorado at Boulder College of Business on Monday, March 5.
G. Chris Andersen, chairman of Millennium Cell Inc. of Eatontown, N.J., will talk on "Digits, Energy, Fuel Cells, Hydrogen and the New Economy" from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in room 224 of the College of Business. The presentation is open to the public.
Anderson's talk is part of a daylong visit to the college, which will include a classroom discussion and a private meeting with selected students. California's recent energy crisis has brought alternative energy sources to the forefront of public interest.
Andersen is a former member of the dean's advisory council at CU-Boulder, where he endowed an assistant professorship at the College of Business to promote effective communication skills throughout the curriculum.
Millennium Cell, founded in January 1999, is a small research and development group interested in alternatives to fossil fuels. Its Hydrogen on Demand system uses sodium borohydride, a powder that can be dissolved in water to make a liquid fuel. This "fuel" can then be used in batteries and fuel cells.
Sodium borohydride solutions also store large amounts of hydrogen gas, which may be used as a power source for a number of purposes.
Andersen, called one of the most creative investment bankers on Wall Street by the New York Times, has been responsible for some of the industry's most innovative transactions and deal structures. During a career spanning more than three decades on Wall Street and encompassing more than $100 billion in funding, he has acted as a banker for clients and companies ranging from John Malone at TCI (now AT&T Broadband and Liberty), Wayne Huizenga at Blockbuster Video and Republic Services, Sir James Goldsmith and McCaw Cellular.
His activities have included merchant banking, investment banking and securities analysis. Andersen is also a general partner of Andersen, Weinroth & Co., a merchant banking firm.
