Area middle-school students get a lesson on harvesting
WHO: CU-BoulderÂ’s Office of Community Relations and Boulder Community Food Share garden staff along with 11- to 14 year-old students from Sojourner School will be on hand to harvest and winterize the campus's four gardens.
WHAT: The final harvest at the four community gardens on campus. Sponsors are CU-BoulderÂ’s Office of Community Relations and Department of Facilities Management, and BoulderÂ’s Community Food Share.
WHEN: Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 1 p.m.
WHERE: Outside the south entrance of the Recreation Center on the CU-Boulder campus. From there, the group will head to the Chemistry Garden (on the southwest side of the Chemistry building) and then on to the Regent gardens (outside the north entrance of Regent Administrative Center).
WHY: The gardens have been maintained by 20 campus volunteers throughout the summer in order to grow fresh produce for Community Food Share. Wynn Martens, director of CU-Boulder's Office of Community Relations said, "It is great to get the Sojourner students on campus," and for them to see how the campus helps support Boulder's needy. This is the projectÂ’s third year and the second year that the gardens have doubled in size on campus. More than 250 pounds of vegetables have been grown this year.
