The Housing Department at the University of Colorado at Boulder will hold its annual Global Jam smorgasbord of culturally diverse foods on Thursday, Sept. 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Farrand Field.
The special meal is meant to raise awareness about other cultures through ethnic entertainment and cuisine, according to Peggy Bonner, a CU-Boulder residence hall director. This year聮s menu will offer foods from Africa, Brazil, the European Alps and down-home Southern cooking.
The housing staff is particularly committed to the program and makes a special effort to provide students with a positive dining experience, Bonner said. The food is prepared by the department聮s dining services.
Some of the foods to be served will include: Cajun hot wings, Louisiana gumbo with chicken, collard greens, grilled bratwurst, sauerkraut, red cabbage with apples, Bavarian potato salad, apple strudel, barbecued beef, Bahian shrimp stew, tropical fruit salad, Doro Wat (chicken with red pepper and tomato stew), spicy Moroccan couscous, spinach with peanuts and coconut, and Soetkoekies (sweet wine and spice cookies).
Entertainment will be provided on two stages. The acts on the main stage will include a Cuban son band, a Brazilian funk band and a reggae and ska band. A smaller stage will offer German folk music, African drumming and a marimba band. Strolling artists also will entertain those attending the Global Jam.
The cost for the dinner is $7 for adults over the age of 13, $3 for children 6 to 12 and children under 6 are free. 麻豆淫院 who have a university meal plan with a valid ID also eat for free.
In case of bad weather, Global Jam will be held inside the main campus dining centers.
