An investment conference sponsored by the CU-Boulder College of Business on Sept. 15-16 will evaluate the return investors can expect from the stock market for the next 25 years.
The conference, held in Beaver Creek, Colo., is the only one of its kind in the nation. It is organized by the college's Burridge Center for Securities Analysis and Valuation and will feature an equal number of industry experts and university professors.
"This even balance of industry professionals and professors offers a unique perspective on investing," said CU-Boulder finance Professor Sanjai Bhagat, director of the Burridge Center. "The discourse will help establish research agendas and lead to improved investment practices and better portfolio management."
Keynote speaker Roger Ibbotson of Yale University and Ibbotson Associates will discuss "Forecasting the Stock Market Through 2025." Presenters include Andrew Davis of Davis Funds, W. Van Harlow of Fidelity Investments, John Rutledge of Rutledge Capital, Mark Carhart of Goldman Sachs and Jeff Maggioncalda of FinancialEngines.com.
"We are proud of the conferenceÂ’s distinguished participants and expect a great dialogue," said Steven Manaster, dean of CU-Boulder's College of Business.
The conference supports the Burridge Center mission of creating new knowledge about world financial markets useful to money managers, valuation experts and finance academics. The Burridge Center endeavors to bring together the best of academic business science and the best of current business practice to improve both.
As Denver continues to emerge as a center for money management, such conferences will become critical to the regionÂ’s financial community, according to Bhagat.
"All of the nationÂ’s top financial centers have strong university programs associated with them," Bhagat said. "New York has NYU and Columbia and San Francisco has Stanford and Berkeley. We want the University of Colorado at Boulder to partner with this regionÂ’s dynamic investment community as Denver gains national prominence in this realm."
Conference topics will include:
o The Cross Section of Expected Returns and its Relation to Past Returns
o The Davis Investment Strategy for the Long Term
o The Real Technology Boom
o Investment Competition, Greener Pastures and Dynamic Institutional Preferences
o Forecasting Size and Value Risk Premia
o Demographic Structure and Asset Returns
Fostering alliances between CU-Boulder and the investment community is a primary goal of the Burridge Center. For more information visit the Web site at or call Susan Kelley at (303) 492-2823.
