The Study Abroad Program at the University of Colorado at Boulder has awarded $156,250 in scholarships and 42 exchange positions to students enrolled in study abroad programs in 2000-2001.
The aid comes from the program's auxiliary accounts, alumni donations, the Colorado Commission on Higher Education Diversity Fund and foundation donations. Exchange positions are not monetary awards but a reduction in study abroad program fees worth several thousands of dollars thanks to agreements with foreign universities.
Scholarships and exchange positions were awarded based on financial need, academic standing, and the student's ability to write and to be a good ambassador for the university and the United States.
CU-Boulder enrolled 445 students in study abroad programs during 2000-2001. Scholarship applications were submitted by 152 students and 116 received a scholarship from CU-Boulder.
In addition to the scholarships awarded by the CU-Boulder Study Abroad Programs office, 22 students received scholarships from the Association of Teachers of Japanese, the Association of International Education in Japan, the Council on International Educational Exchange, Semester at Sea, Beaver College, Denmark International Study and the School for International Training.
