Â鶹ÒùÔº attending the University of Colorado at Boulder who have been fighting fires in Western states this summer will be able to arrive late for classes but they are encouraged to notify the registrar's office of their delayed arrival.
These students, or a family member, should contact the registrar's office as soon as possible to hold their fall semester classes. The number to call is (303) 492-6970.
CU-Boulder is joining Colorado State University and other campuses across the West in responding to appeals by the Department of the Interior, Gov. Bill Owens and other governors to allow college students to continue battling blazes and report for classes after the scheduled start date. For CU-Boulder students, classes begin on Monday, Aug. 28.
According to Registrar Steve Ekerholm, estimating the number of firefighters among the roughly 26,000 students who will attend CU-Boulder this fall is an impossible task. "I don't think anybody has any idea how many of our students might be fighting fires," Ekerholm said. "But what we do know is that we have had no inquiries about this from students so far."
