The CU-Boulder Alumni Association will recognize 10 outstanding individuals, alumni and CU faculty, at the 70th annual Alumni Awards Banquet on Tuesday, May 9.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the Old Main Chapel on the CU campus. A reception will follow at the CU Heritage Center.
The recipients will be honored for their distinguished careers and exceptional contributions to CU and the community.
Colorado House of Representatives members and alumni Jennifer L. Veiga and Todd Saliman will receive the CU Legislative Recognition Award. Veiga is an attorney and member of the Capital Development Committee. Saliman is a strong supporter of CU on the Joint Budget Committee and has been important in fighting for the university on budget issues. Legislative Recognition Awards recognize outstanding legislative contributions on behalf of CU.
Simona Errico, a junior systems engineer at Ball Aerospace and Technologies, will receive the Outstanding Recent Graduate Award. Errico has played an active role in CUÂ’s Women in Engineering Program for the past five years. The Outstanding Recent Graduate Award recognizes outstanding career achievement within 10 years of graduation.
Alumni Recognition Awards will go to Chris Bittman and William Royal. Bittman is the president and CEO of Jurika & Voyles Investment Management, LP. Royal is retired from a long career with Bell Telephone Laboratories and has been active with the university for more than 70 years. Alumni Recognition Awards honor graduates CU-Boulder that have demonstrated loyalty and commitment to the university and its Alumni Association.
Space scientist Jo Ann Joselyn and National Youth Leadership Council President James Kielsmeier will receive the George Norlin Award. Joselyn is the first female secretary-general of the prestigious International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics. Kielsmeier and Joselyn will be honored for distinguished lifetime achievement in their chosen fields of endeavor and a devotion to the betterment of society and their community.
John "Jinx" Cooper of physics, Robert Hohlfelder of history and Kevin McCarthy of music will receive the Robert L. Stearns Award for extraordinary achievement by CU-Boulder faculty.
