Daniel Vigil, associate dean for student affairs at the University of Colorado School of Law, was elected chairman of the Board of Directors of the newly formed Colorado Legal Services on Oct. 1.
"I find it a great honor and a great challenge being elected chairman," said Vigil. "I look forward to providing and improving legal services to those who are unable to afford it."
The Legal Aid Society held its final meeting on Sept. 9 before merging with Colorado Rural Legal Services and Pikes Peak/Arkansas River Legal Aid on Oct. 1 to create a single statewide legal services provider called Colorado Legal Services.
Vigil will head the newly merged systemÂ’s board, which hopes to provide improved legal services to low-income residents more efficiently and effectively.
Vigil graduated from CU-Boulder in 1978 and received his law degree four years later. He immediately established a general practice with an emphasis in litigation.
He has been teaching at CU-Boulder for 15 years and served as assistant dean for student affairs from 1983 to 1989 before being named associate dean. He has also been on the Legal Aid Society Board for 13 years and has been chairman for the past two.
